Event Details

The Stormwater Quality Best Management Practices (BMPs) workshop is an in-person, two-day educational event hosted by the City and County of Honolulu’s Storm Water Quality Division. This year the workshop will be on July 30th and July 31st at the Sheraton Waikiki. The workshop brings together professionals from across Hawaiʻi to share practical strategies, lessons learned, and innovative approaches for protecting water quality and managing stormwater sustainably.

Sessions focus on real-world applications of stormwater BMPs, green infrastructure, watershed planning, and emerging technologies. The workshop is designed to support compliance, improve long-term BMP performance, and strengthen collaboration among agencies, practitioners, and community partners.

Theme Tracks & Presentation Topics

The BMP Workshop features 36+ educational sessions presented by experienced professionals from across Hawaiʻi and beyond. Presentations will cover practical applications, case studies, lessons learned, and innovative strategies related to stormwater quality, sustainability, and watershed protection. Topics include:

Construction & Post-Construction Stormwater BMPs
Sessions will focus on managing stormwater during and after construction activities, including erosion and sediment control, site compliance, inspections, and long-term BMP performance.

Green Infrastructure & Landscape Management
This track explores nature-based and sustainable solutions such as green stormwater infrastructure, vegetated systems, permeable surfaces, urban forestry, and landscape design and maintenance.

Watershed, Planning & Community Engagement
Presentations will highlight watershed-scale planning, land-use and environmental planning, public education, and community-based programs that support resilient and sustainable stormwater management.

Stormwater Innovation & Technology
This track features emerging tools and data-driven approaches, including monitoring technologies, GIS applications, modeling tools, drones, and digital inspection and reporting systems.
